Continental introduces the VanContact Winter, a new winter tire for light commercial vehicles and vans designed for cold weather conditions. Along with its excellent safety characteristics on snowy and icy surfaces and precision handling on snow-covered or wet roads, this load carrier also offers greatly improved fuel efficiency.
The greater economy compared with the VancoWinter 2 will benefit customers in the commercial sector and also private customers fitting their vans with the new tire. The rolling resistance has also been reduced by 15% over its predecessor due to both an advanced silica compound that lessens tire deformation on entering the contact patch, thereby reducing energy loss, and to an improved overall design.
The VanContact Winter offers 5% improvement in performance when braking on snow and 9% improvement when braking in the wet, thanks to both its tread compound and its optimized sipe concept. Sinus sipes in the tread center and an interrupted sipe structure in the shoulder blocks significantly increase the number of gripping edges in the longitudinal direction. Zigzag circumferential grooves and evenly spaced snow pockets in the shoulder blocks improve the compression of snow in the grooves, which achieves greater grip.
