Hankook has launched its SmartControl DW07 truck tire. This new pattern was designed for use in extreme winter conditions for European long-haul and distribution transport.
The tire has an 8% wider tread, which increases the contact area between tire and road for improved grip and handling. It also has five main drainage grooves for extra hydroplaning safety. The tire’s closely-set 3D winter sipes perform two important tasks: firstly, they enable for even wear of the tread surface, which is reinforced by the shock absorbing arrangement of the tread blocks; and secondly, in combination with the unique half-open shoulder design of the SmartControl DW07, the sipes generate improved traction on ice and snow-covered streets. Both braking and traction performance are also supported by the jagged finish of the tire’s tread blocks.
A specially developed compound mixture is said to provide high braking performance even at low temperatures. Meanwhile, Hankook’s Stiffness Control Contour Technology (SCCT)ensures even distribution of the pressure in the tires to minimize the deformation of the carcass tread. This not only increases the longevity of the tires but also improves their retreadability.
