Nokian has launched its new WR A4 tire with improved snow and slush grip properties, which are the result of over four years of development.
According to the tire maker, designing the tread pattern, structure and rubber compounds required thousands of hours of computer modeling, laboratory comparisons and physical testing in various conditions.
This included a unique slushplaning test method, which was conducted at the company’s White Hell testing center in Ivalo, Lapland, and wet and dry testing that was conducted on roads in Germany and Spain.
The WR A4 features functional performance siping and a special silica-rich compound, which enable the tire to withstand rapid temperature changes in a range of conditions from snow storms to heavy rain or sunshine. The centipede siping on the center rib meanwhile also maximizes snow grip and stable handling.
