Vow ASA’s subsidiary, Scanship, has signed a FEED (Front End Engineering Design) contract with Murfitts Industries, an end-of-life tire recycling company. The two companies will collaborate to develop a process to recycle raw materials from old tires on a large scale.
As a result of the contract, a fully fledged tire pyrolysis plant will be set up for operation in 2026. The main aim is to supply manufacturers with recovered carbon black (rCB) that can be used to produce new tires. The tire pyrolysis oil (TPO) from this process can also be refined to produce sustainable fuels. Trials have already demonstrated that the recovered materials meet the quality standards set by manufacturers.
Mark Murfitt, CEO of Murfitts Industries, said, “We have focused on developing a program that is industry leading in the sustainable recovery of end-of-life tires. The investment we’re making in this next stage will deliver a plant that can meet the needs of manufacturers at a commercial scale. This is vital in giving them certainty, predictability and confidence in the quality and quantity of the recovered material.”
