Toyo Tires has chosen technology company Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to provide its seventh-generation high-performance computing (HPC) system for tire development, delivered through the HPE GreenLake cloud platform. The new system is expected to accelerate the time-to-market for Toyo Tires’ next-generation solutions by improving the speed and precision of processing structural tire data.
The computational power of the upgraded HPC system aims to reduce the time required for complex, large-scale design simulations that Toyo Tires uses to train its AI models. The platform uses HPE Cray XD systems and is designed to deliver the flexibility to scale HPC resources and provide greater access for designers. The HPE GreenLake cloud provides a cloud experience with managed infrastructure, consumption analytics and predictable economics.
Hirokazu Mochizuki, senior vice president and managing director of HPE Japan, said, “We are pleased to collaborate with Toyo Tires and strengthen its digitalized development with powerful HPE Cray performance delivered via HPE GreenLake cloud. The latest solution provides Toyo Tires with an optimal level of performance, in a flexible environment, to support a new era of innovation with speed and efficiency.”
In collaboration with HPE experts, Toyo Tires used the system to optimize one of its critical in-house computer-aided engineering (CAE) applications, known as TOYO-FEM. The improvements aim to enable more designers to run simulations simultaneously. The time required to simulate large-scale design has been reduced and the company’s deep learning inverse problem solver, which uses simulation data to develop tire designs, including structure, shape and patterns, has been improved.
“As the automotive industry accelerates its digital transformation and increasingly moves toward simulation instead of prototyping and performance evaluation testing, auto makers are increasingly requesting mathematical models of tires, which is a faster, more cost-efficient and sustainable process,” said Tamotsu Mizutani, corporate officer and division general manager for the technology development division of Toyo Tires. “This requires numerical models of the tires and our new HPC system will advance this move toward digitalized simulation. Our design engineers are excited about the enhanced capabilities of the system, and we are looking forward to accelerating the training of our AI models.”
