Hankook has released further details about its Road Risk Detection Solution, developed in collaboration with SK Planet.
According to the company, the system uses AI and deep learning technology to analyze road noise acquired from a moving vehicle to identify potential risk factors on the road such as rainfall, snow, black ice and accidents.
This information is then transferred in real time to various public departments related to road safety and maintenance, hopefully eliciting a response such as removing excess snow or repairing potholes. SK Planet holds a patent for the sound-processing and deep-learning technology that is an integral part of this solution.
Hankook notes that for the system to function effectively, it is necessary for the AI to be exposed to as varied an array of noise data as possible, acquired by driving in different road conditions.
In the development process, the company will provide diverse data to SK Planet and contribute to improving the accuracy of the technology by collecting data from its test driving tracks in Geumsan, South Korea, and Ivalo, Finland.
