Michelin’s plans to reduce CO2 emissions have now been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Using 2010 as a base year, the French tire empire wants to significantly decrease its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
The company’s bosses plan to reduce scope 1 emissions from sites that are owned and controlled by Michelin, and scope 2 which covers energy purchased and consumed by the company by at least 38% by 2030. Scope 3 emissions, which details emissions generated by sources not owned or controlled by the company, should be reduced by 15% by 2030 under the initiative using 2018 as the base year.
Michelin’s overall target for the business is to achieve net-zero emissions at all company sites by 2050.
