Nynas has launched a new high-performance grade process oil, produced using state-of-the-art hydro-treating technology.
According to its manufacturers, Nytex 846 has all of the advantages of pure naphthenic oils, including high compatibility with polar and non-polar rubber, ease of processing, and excellent low-temperature properties. Its low color also makes it ideal for use in the formulation of innovative end products within the full color range.
“Nytex 846 has been developed to meet an ever-growing demand to improve fuel economy without compromising on wet grip or wear,” said Dr Herbert Fruhmann, global marketing manager for tire and rubber oils at Nynas.
The polarity of the new oil is designed to ensure it performs well in conjunction with a wide range of polymers, including natural rubber (functionalized, solution and emulsion), SBR, polybutadiene rubber, and halobutyl rubber, as well as EPDM, making it a versatile and reliable product in all application areas.
It has a viscosity within the Bright stock range and a high flashpoint for safe processing, making it attractive for high-temperature curing operations in EPDM applications. Initial tests have shown good performance and high compatibility with other components.
“The product’s glass transition temperature is -46°C [-51°F]. We believe, and in-house tests have shown, that Nytex 846 can help to reduce the rolling resistance of tires, while also improving traction at low temperatures,” said Dr Mika Lahtinen, global technical manager for tire and rubber applications, Nynas.
Nytex 846 has been designed to meet current and anticipated health, safety and environmental demands of legislative bodies around the globe, including all requirements on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). It will be made available worldwide through Nynas’s depot network.
