London-based parcel delivery network Hived is to trial tire technology company Enso’s sustainable tires on its electric delivery vehicles.
Taking place over three months, the trial will start with six vans from Hived’s electric fleet. Enso creates tires specially designed for EVs, with a focus on greater sustainability and reduced tire pollution.
Hived, founded in 2021, utilizes a 100% electric vehicle fleet to deliver across Greater London. While EVs effectively reduce tailpipe emissions, tire pollution persists – a European Council Impact Assessment states that by 2050 non-exhaust emissions will constitute up to 90% of all particles emitted by road transportation.
Gemma Neal, head of sustainability at Hived, said, “Particulate pollution has, until now, been an inevitable part of having vehicles on the road, but finding a solution to cut this pollution is crucial.”
“Electric vehicles are a vital solution in combating climate change and eliminating harmful exhaust pipe emissions,” said Gunnlaugur Erlendsson, Enso founder. “Conducting real-world trials with Hived will further demonstrate the capability of new tire technology from Enso to reduce the harm caused by tire dust, improve the air we breathe, and tackle a major source of microplastic pollution.”
