Ford’s latest Explorer and Capri all-electric SUVs will come factory-fitted with Continental tires. The Blue Oval has approved the fitment of EcoContact 6 Q summer tires in 19-, 20- and 21-inch sizes for both models. Ford has also issued equipment approval for the AllSeasonContact tires in 19-inch size.
The EcoContact 6 Q is designed for reduced noise and energy-efficient driving, thanks to a specially developed rubber compound that lessens energy absorption and reduces friction and rolling resistance.
Continental has optimized the tread to decrease rolling noise. Modified blocks, sipes and side grooves mean the EcoContact 6 Q offers high mileage and braking performance as well as good handling. Continental says the tire provides reliable grip on dry and wet road surfaces, and excellent cornering stability.
With rolling resistance class A and an XL marking, the AllSeasonContact is the perfect all-weather tire for EVs, according to Continental. The company’s engineers significantly reduced the rolling resistance with an extremely energy-efficient tire design and a new rubber compound. With this special tread and rigid profile design, the AllSeasonContact offers a high level of resistance to aquaplaning. The silica compound in the tire also enables good grip and short braking distances.
Due to their increased load index, the tires are designed to cope with the increased weight of EVs. Continental has said that the 10 highest-volume manufacturers of EVs rely on its tires as their original equipment.
