Since 2012, Alpine and Michelin have collaborated, commencing with the sports model A110. The partnership has been rekindled as they join forces once more to provide tires for the forthcoming electric models within Alpine’s Dream Garage: a fleet of 100% electric cars. Currently comprised of the sporty A290, Crossover GT and the all-new, fully electric A110, the Dream Garage will later expand with a A110-based roadster and reborn A310, with the aim of launching seven new models by 2030.
The first model for which Michelin will supply tires is the A290. After two years of research, testing and development, three specific 19-in tires will be offered for the future A290: two summer and one winter.
The line-up includes the Michelin Pilot Sport EV, a dynamic summer tire engineered for optimal energy efficiency, combining aspects of grip, longevity and autonomy. Complementing this, the Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 is specifically designed to unlock the A290’s full potential on both wet and dry surfaces.
Additionally, the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 is a winter tire designed with superior grip to tackle a variety of winter conditions, especially in cold and inclement weather, as well as on wet or snow-covered surfaces.
At 3.99m, the A290 combines features designed for the vehicle to reach new limits. A short wheelbase promotes agility while a wider track increases stability, notably under braking. What’s more, wider tracks make it possible to increase the cross-section of the tread by more than 15% to 225mm wide, to cause greater surface contact with the ground.
Alpine CEO Philippe Krief said, “Particular attention has been paid to the tire’s rolling resistance, without compromising grip and driving, to give this first electric Alpine the best possible range, while maintaining the brand’s distinctive dynamic characteristics.”
