Hankook is equipping the Volkswagen Tiguan with the new Ventus evo SUV tire. The summer tire is original equipment and is available in five different sizes from 18in to 20in, matched to the respective trim.
The 18in and 19in variants focus on driving comfort, while the 20in variant is characterized by a sporty design. All tires bear the ‘+’ symbol for Volkswagen’s original equipment on the sidewall.
“The close and trusting collaboration with Volkswagen in the tire development for the new VW Tiguan has paid off. We have achieved the optimum match for each tire size and are able to contribute to the unique driving characteristics of the popular Volkswagen model,” said Klaus Krause, vice president and head of Europe Technical Center at Hankook.
Hankook engineers worked intensively during the two-year development time to combine the driving characteristics of the Ventus evo SUV with a low noise level. The tread design and the balanced mix of tread materials contribute toward reduced noise level of less than 66dB.
The Opti Pitch technology, focused on the ideal size and positioning of the tread blocks, and the Kerf design are aimed at minimizing noise levels. The Dual Pitch technology ensures the optimum number of blocks on the inside and outside of the tread for steering precision during cornering, and the adjusted tread height reduces noise without compromising traction, braking behavior, cornering stability or maximum mileage.
The 18in and 19in versions of the Ventus evo SUV offer “maximum driving comfort”, the tire maker says, with the tires for the Tiguan R-Line offering “a sportier configuration to emphasise its dynamic character”. A 20in sports version is also available with a special tread compound that has been tried and tested on the racetrack and subjected to demanding driving tests on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The new Ventus evo SUV is produced exclusively at the company’s European site at Rácalmás, Hungary.
