Goodyear has announced that its summer tires have been selected as the original equipment for the Cupra Born fully electric road car. The chosen tires are the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance in sizes 215/55R18, 215/50R19 and 215/45R20.
Goodyear’s EfficientGrip Performance has been designed to deliver high mileage and range while maintaining high levels of braking performance in the wet and dry. The tire maker has achieved this by creating a tread with high elasticity and flexibility. By lowering the stiffness of the tire’s compound, wear is reduced and the tire’s blocks can bend to improve water evacuation.
Furthermore, larger tread blocks increase cornering stiffness and provide users with improved stability when carrying out dry emergency maneuvers.
“We are delighted that Cupra has selected Goodyear tires as original equipment on the exciting new Born,” commented Hans Vrijsen, managing director consumer OE at Goodyear EMEA. “We already enjoy a great relationship with Cupra, so it is a pleasure to be part of their first fully electric road car. Electrification is a key part of Goodyear’s strategy, and we have a wide range of tires suited to the unique demands and performance characteristics of electric cars.”
Goodyear and Cupra also have a partnership that extends to the racetrack. The tire company is the official supplier for Pure ETCR, the world’s first multi-brand all-electric touring car championship.
