Continental tires are to be factory-fitted to the recently unveiled, all-electric Volkswagen ID.3. Volkswagen has granted approvals for summer and winter tires for 18 and 19in rims.
The EcoContact 6 summer and WinterContact TS 850 P winter tires have both been adapted to suit the specific requirements of the ID.3. As an EV, the ID.3 will run on tires with low rolling resistance to deliver the maximum possible range between charges. Low tire/road noise for passenger comfort and an aerodynamic sidewall design to help minimize the vehicle’s drag are other key features.
Both the summer and winter tires also feature ContiSeal technology. ContiSeal automatically and reliably closes punctures in the tire tread with a diameter of up to 5mm, thereby eliminating approximately 90% of all punctures, according to Conti. The company also supplies the onboard server that provides connectivity for Volkswagen’s electric ID models.
