German OEM Porsche is to use Continental tires as part of the Taycan’s original equipment package.
At present, Continental’s PremiumContact 6 summer tires, ProContact RX all-season tires and WinterContact TS 860 S winter tires have all been approved for the EV, with all iterations of the tire featuring the XL markings that represent an increased load force.
The tire manufacturer’s PremiumContact 6 has been specifically developed and designed for sporty, comfortable driving, but also to enable short braking distances and cornering stability at high speeds.
The all-season ProContact RX touring tire (available in the US) offers a good level of traction and brake performance on wet and dry roads, and the WinterContact TS 860 S provides reliable performance and steering precision in snow-covered scenarios, as well as excellent handling in the dry.
“In electromobility, the lowest-possible rolling resistance, low noise emissions and a high load-bearing capacity of the tire play an important role,” commented Holger Lange, head of tire development in Continental’s original equipment business. “In original equipment, of course, great importance is also attached to the tire’s handling characteristics, as these have a significant impact on the vehicle’s driving behavior. The Porsche Taycan is a good example of high-performance electric vehicles with high driving pleasure. In these vehicles, safety-relevant properties at high speeds and a perfect match of the tire to the vehicle are the focus of tire design.”
