Nexen Tire has revealed three future concept tire designs called the Born to Race (BTR), the Mars + Earth (Mearth) and the Nocturne, developed through an industry-academia collaboration with nine product design students from the Design Council Busan (DCB) of Korea Design Membership Plus (KDM+).
The BTR was designed as a racing tire and benefits from an internal spherical structure capable of adjusting the camber angle depending on the road surface. Additionally, the tire can maintain a stable ground area by using individual tread patterns.
Developed for use on Mars, the Mearth is a futuristic transform tire which is capable of expanding its tread area by using specially developed materials. An additional mode can be selected to enable the clearing of barren areas on the Red Planet through the use of protruding sidewall elements.
The third tire is the Nocturne, which uses active noise canceling technology to reduce tire noise when traveling at high speeds.
