Sumitomo Rubber Industries will launch its first EV-specific tires in China, the Dunlop eSport Maxx, this April.
While developing the tire, the company focused on the areas of energy efficiency and noise reduction. By utilizing advanced material development technology, SRI fine-tuned the tire’s rubber compounds, resulting in a product that delivers a high energy efficiency, excellent wet weather performance and steering stability.
To ensure lower noise levels in the cabin, the tire range features SRI’s Silent Core technology, consisting of specially developed noise-absorbing sponges. The tires weigh less than conventional tires, resulting in resource savings and less of an impact to the environment.
With the Chinese government and the European Commission having set targets for EV adoption rates and the reduction of CO2 emissions, China and Europe are now leading markets for EVs. As a result, SRI is planning to release a replacement EV tire, the Falken e.ZIEX, in Europe in 2023. The range will then be expanded to other regions in the future.
