Michelin North America has launched its X Multi Energy Z2 tire for use in regional and super-regional applications such as vans, small trucks and delivery fleets. Alongside this, the company is also launching the X Line Energy T2 tire, set for use on commercial trucks with trailers or flatbeds on long-haul journeys.
The X Multi Energy Z2 is primarily designed for use on delivery fleets, small trucks, and food and beverage vehicles carrying out a multitude of stop-and-start journeys covering distances of 482-804km each day. Michelin says the tire has attributes that enable it to perform well on medium scrub surfaces, making it more resistant to irregular wear.
Michelin states that improved performance is delivered via a dual-tread compound that enhances rolling resistance, thus improving mileage and wet-braking efficiency through increased water evacuation. The X Multi Energy Z2 will be available in two sizes: a 11R22.5 LRG and a 295/75R22.5 LRH. It is SmartWay compliant and has been GHG2 (Greenhouse Gas Standards) approved until 2027.
The X Line Energy T2 is designed to meet the requirements of dry van truckloads, including tankers and flatbed fleets. The improved tread pattern features micro-sipes on all rib edges, along with an optimized contact patch, leading to better wear and wet-stopping attributes. A mileage top layer sits above the dual-compound tread to control tread stiffness and stress, while a bottom layer minimizes internal casing temperatures for lower rolling resistance and better fuel efficiency. Curb guards and upper sidewall ribs increase protection against damage, enabling the tire to be retreaded if necessary.
The X Line Energy T2 is also SmartWay compliant and comes in four sizes: 295/75R22.5 LRG, 11R22.5 LRG, 285/75R24.5 LRG and 11R24.5 LRH.
