Michelin has launched two generations of truck tires at IAA Transportation 2024. The X Line Energy 3 and X Multi Energy 2 are designed for long-haul and regional transportation.
The X Line Energy 3 tires are designed for steer and drive axles and are available in two sizes: 315/60 R 22.5 X Line Energy Z3 and 295/60 R 22.5 X Line Energy D3.
These are the first long-haul tires in the 60 series to be A-rated for fuel efficiency. According to Michelin, they cut fuel consumption by up to 0.62 liters per 100km, versus the average of the tested competitors. Michelin also reports that the tires reduce CO2 emissions by up to three metric tons compared with the average of competitors with an annual mileage of 150,000km.
Other highlights include less abrasion, improved lateral grip compared with the previous range, and 3% improvement in mileage potential compared with its predecessor.
The Michelin X Multi Energy 2 tires for steer and drive axles are available in two sizes: 315/70 R 22.5 X Multi Energy Z2 & D2, and 315/80 R 22.5 X Multi Energy Z2 & D2. These tires are designed to be used in a wide range of applications, including freeways and multi- and single-carriageways.
Michelin says the X Multi Energy 2 offers better fuel consumption – up to 1.2 liters lower than the Michelin X Multi, along with reduced CO2 emissions and 5.06% more lateral grip (when new) than the previous range. These tires also offer less abrasion and better performance than the range they replace.
Philipp Ostbomk, Michelin’s vice president of B2B for Europe North, added, “Both products can also be regrooved and retreaded, ensuring fleets can extract the maximum performance from each new Michelin casing. This helps our customers reduce their operating costs in a highly competitive market and contribute to more sustainable mobility.”
