Michelin has launched the Primacy 5, which the company says offers increased lifespan, noise reduction and energy efficiency compared with its predecessor, the Primacy 4.
It features a new patented tread pattern with deeper channels to allow optimum water evacuation. The Primacy 5 is A-rated according to the European standard. When new, it improves braking performance on wet surfaces by 4% compared with the Primacy 4.
Michelin says the Primacy 5’s increased lifespan of +18% enables it to drive approximately 7,000km further than its predecessor. This is expected to benefit heavier and more demanding vehicles, with a direct effect on tire wear. In addition, the Primacy 5 can be used for longer, which helps reduce its environmental impact by 6% according to the tire lifecycle assessment (LCA).
The new tread pattern and, for each tire size, harmonized positioning of the blocks and sipes, allow the Primacy 5 to reduce external and interior noise.
The Primacy 5 will be available in 87 sizes in 2025, of which 64 will be available from January in Europe, with 149 dimensions available by mid-2026. It will also be sold in other areas of the world, particularly in Asia, from March 2025.
