A new size Michelin Xtra Defend has been launched. The 33.25 R29 will be released this December and has been designed for fitment to the Volvo A60H – stated to be the largest articulated dump truck in the world. It will replace the 800/80 R 29 size X-Super Terrain +.
The new means the range consists of four references for the 80 series – a 23.5 R25, 26.5 R25, 29.5 R25 and 33.25 R29 – and two references for the 65 series – a 750/65 R25 and 875/65 R29. To ensure the tires provide a longer service life, the Michelin Xtra Defend range is retreadable and intended for use in the OEM and replacement markets.
Michelin has engineered the Xtra Defend to provide traction, in addition to enhanced resistance against damage with a minimum 24.7%1 greater metal mass, combined with a reinforced casing and plies. The tire’s sidewalls are also thicker for added durability.
The tread also prolongs service life through a greater depth and higher volume of rubber. The natural rubber used for the Xtra Defend 33.25 R29 also delivers reduced heat emissions to meet users’ productivity requirements.
“Michelin Xtra Defend is designed to meet productivity levels ranging up to a maximum of 385 metric tons per kilometer per hour on intensive cycles,” explained Laurent Greppi, product category manager, Michelin. “The protection level is optimized with a tread depth of 69mm and a reinforced steel crown belt package in order to ensure mobility and long life on all surface types, such as hard stones, very abrasive surfaces, and even muddy soil.”
