Pirelli has developed a specially adapted version of its P Zero tire for Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N, the auo maker’s first high-performance electric car.
In a two-year collaboration with Hyundai, the tire was developed using virtual simulation tools and then tested on the Nürburgring circuit.
The bespoke P Zero tire features Pirelli’s Elect technology, specially engineered for electric cars and plug-in hybrids. The P Zero Elect, according to Pirelli, offers a reinforced structure and materials for the weight of a battery-powered vehicle; durability to withstand the high torque generated by electric motors; as well as wet grip and handling through the use of functionalized polymers in the compound.
The tire also incorporates Pirelli’s Noise Cancelling System (PNCS), which has been designed to reduce in-cabin noise by employing sound-absorbing materials within the tire.
In addition to the summer tire, Pirelli has also developed a specialized version of the Winter Sottozero 3 tire to meet the differing requirements of Ioniq 5 N drivers.
Highlighting its bespoke adaptation for the vehicle, the tire bears a distinct ‘HN’ marking on the sidewall.
