Yokohama has introduced its latest OTR tire, the Galaxy LHD 510 SDS for wheel loader applications. According to the company, the Severe Duty Solid (SDS), non-pneumatic tire, has been specifically developed for use on vehicles carrying out operations in extreme areas, such as those found in waste management facilities, scrap yards and recycling centers.
Produced using a special compound formulation, the tire features a solid construction to enable a high load carrying capacity and to prevent damaging attacks such as punctures, chipping and chunking, and to also prevent vehicle downtime. Sidewall apertures have been designed to ease tire fatigue on hard or uneven surfaces.
A deep groove on the tire’s shoulder is said to provide traction on a multitude of surfaces, which is increased with the addition of large tread blocks with continuous S-lugs, creating a horizontal pattern across the tire’s entire tread surface. This zig-zag and deep groove design helps to channel water away from the contact patch in wet scenarios and provides biting-edges to ensure maximum vehicle traction in water or mud-covered situations. A stepped tie-bar design improves vehicle ground stability, alongside a rim guard.
The Galaxy LHD-510 SDS features steel wire creel beads across the tire’s entire cross section, to provide a tight and uniform contact patch alongside the strength to reliably handle high torque output without rim slippage.
Yokohama’s latest Galaxy LHD 510 SDS tire range is available in four sizes: 20.5-25, 23.5-25, 26.5-25 and 29.5-25.
