All-weather performance is important not just for tractor unit tires but also those fitted to trailers. With this in mind, Dunlop has introduced the SP247, a new trailer tire range that offers fleets extended all-weather performance, high mileage and low cost per kilometer. The SP247 replaces the SP246 range.
The SP247 range is characterized by a robust 5 or 6 rib design, ensuring even contact pressure across the tire. Dunlop said it has created a strong and durable casing construction, featuring deep sipes and a fuel-saving, high-abrasion-resistant tread compound, and that the range is fully retreadable.
The sipes within the tread profile go up to two-third of the full tread depth; beyond the 50% worn stage. By creating additional biting edges, they interlock with the road surface providing an optimized grip performance, lasting until a late stage of the tire life.
In all sizes, the tires carry both the M+S and Three Peak Mountain SnowFlake (3PMSF) symbols. Dunlop said it managed to meet the most stringent EU regulation requirements without any trade-off in other key performance areas such as short braking distances and improved wet grip throughout the tire life, rolling resistance or mileage.
The tire maker also said that progressive winter tire regulations in Europe require 3PMSF marked products on trailer axles besides the steer and drive. Fleets operating across Europe therefore have a particular interest in mounting 3PMSF-marked tires as this type of product will be compliant, independent of local legal requirements.
