Continental has introduced the new CrossContact H/T (highway/terrain), a summer tire that benefits from enhanced on- and off-road traction in addition to a 20% increase in mileage over its service life.
Designed with a multi-purpose tread pattern, the CrossContact H/T is suitable for application to passenger cars, crossovers and SUVs with all types of drive systems. Continental developed the tire with a robust tread, rubber compound and structure to ensure it is durable, making it suitable for use on mild off-road terrain.
The tire manufacturer’s engineers have also added “grip teeth”, small protrusions in the tire’s tread grooves to deliver additional grip on loose and uneven surfaces. For additional durability, the tire shoulders have been strengthened to protect against damage from stones.
Developed using a novel composition and polymer network, the CrossContact H/T’s tread compound has been enhanced in terms of its robustness, delivering approximately 20% more mileage than its predecessor, the ContiCrossContact LX2.
For added comfort, the tire has a rubber layer below the tread which aids in dampening road noise inside and outside a vehicle by an estimated 10%. Beneath this are two further layers of cap fabric to prevent the carcass from being damaged by stones, and under these cap fabric layers are two strong steel belts and double carcass plies for increased durability.
Upon launch, the tire will be available in 43 variants to suit rims between 15in and 21in in diameter.
