Developed for application to mixed regional and long-distance haulage vehicles, the Conti EcoRegional HS3+ and EcoRegional HD3+ have been specifically designed for multiple-delivery journeys. Benefits of the new tires include improved fuel efficiency, reduced rolling resistance and lower CO2 emissions.
Sharing the same tread design as its predecessor, the Conti EcoRegional HS3+ has been designed for the steering axle with pocket sipes for better wear and improved water dispersion attributes; 50% of the rib width has full-depth sipes while Continental-designed groove geometries result in the uniform transfer of power and extended tire life. Rolling resistance has been reduced further through the implementation of a modified tread compound.
The latest Conti EcoRegional HD3+ is also visibly the same as its previous iteration, with a low-void design and a tread which features multiple gripping edges. This provides low deformation, a low rolling resistance and a higher mileage over its service life. The tire features 3D sipes to reinforce tread stability and durability. By utilizing a modified casing construction and enhanced production processes, the tire maker has significantly reduced the rolling resistance of the drive axle tire.
Both tires feature the 3PMSF sidewall marking, showing they are suitable for all year round and winter use. Furthermore, some sizes of the tire can be ordered with intelligent sensors from the factory.
“The tires in the Conti EcoRegional Generation 3+ line are the result of an enhanced production process that lowers rolling resistance without sacrificing mileage performance,” explained Hinnerk Kaiser, head of product development, bus and truck tires, Continental.
“This process involves curing the tires at a relatively low temperature for longer and is known as the Conti Diamond Technique. It has the benefit of giving the polymers and carbon particles more time to react with one another and crosslink effectively, resulting in less internal friction within the compound. This in turn has the effect of improving rolling resistance.”
The Conti EcoRegional HS3+ will be available in sizes 315/70R22.5, 315/80R22.5, 385/55R22.5 and a 385.65R22.5; the Conti EcoRegional HD3+ will be released in sizes 315/70R22.5 and 315/80R22.5.
