Continental has launched a new winter tire, the WinterContact 8 S. The tire is suitable for particularly powerful vehicles and joins the WinterContact TS 870 and WinterContact TS 870 P in the range.
Continental also offers as an alternative the AllSeasonContact 2 all-season tire, which similarly achieved strong test scores. The winter and all-season tires from Continental are suitable for vehicles with any type of drive system. Some are also available with the ContiSeal technology, which provides a self-sealing response to punctures, or the ContiSilent technology for exceptionally low levels of road noise.
The WinterContact 8 S has been engineered for maximum grip on dry and wet roads with high-performance cars in mind. It is stated to deliver superior dry handling and extremely short braking distances in the dry and wet while also offering excellent safety on snow-covered winter roads, ensuring drivers are well-equipped for the cold season.
The tires will be manufactured for wheel rims of 19in to 22in in diameter from launch, with speed ratings as high as 270km/h (168mph).
The WinterContact TS 870 was designed for smaller cars up to the mid-size segment. It was developed to provide good traction on dry, wet and winter roads, and also features sustainability-enhancing properties such as low rolling resistance and high mileage.
The WinterContact TS 870 P is suitable for larger sedans and SUVs, and delivers “precise, secure handling on typical winter roads as well as in the dry and wet”, Continental says. This is combined with low rolling resistance – an important factor in extending the range of EVs and lowering fuel consumption in conventionally powered vehicles.
The AllSeasonContact 2, which was introduced last year, is suitable for a wide variety of car and SUV models, regardless of the type of drive system. Continental significantly increased the mileage of the AllSeasonContact 2 compared to its predecessor as well as lowering its rolling resistance.
