Motorsport UK has confirmed that Vega will be the sole tire supplier for slick and wet tires in the Cadet category of karting for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, starting in April 2024.
Established over 40 years ago, Vega Tyres has factories in Italy and France. Its products must pass 200 laboratory checks to assure racers of consistent compounds.
Over the coming weeks, Motorsport UK will engage with Cadet category stakeholders, including teams and class owners, to ensure the transition from current tire supplier Dunlop to Vega is as seamless as possible.
Motorsport UK reports that during testing, drivers and mechanics have found that the new tires demonstrate performance comparable to Dunlop’s tires while providing increased levels of grip in various conditions.
Vega’s tire importer in the UK is Andy Cox Racing, which will be responsible for the distribution and sales of the Vega tires for the Cadet classes. The first consignment of tires will be available from January 22, 2024.
Jamie Green, former DTM driver and now kart team owner, commented, “Testing was carried out in a thorough fashion in all conditions. Overall, the Vega tire demonstrated that it is a good choice for the Cadet classes.”
Will Green, IAME World Final winner, added, “I really enjoyed the feedback and the feel of the Vega slick tire. It was very easy to drive.”
