In the Superbike (SBK) class, manufacturer Pirelli will be testing two new development tire options with super soft compounds at the fourth round of the WorldSBK at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Completing the rear allocation will be the company’s standard SCQ, SC0 and SCX tires with the standard soft SC1 and the development SC1 A0674 will be used as the front tires.
The two new rear allocations, the SCXA (specification B0452) and SCXB (specification B0453) are different from the standard SCX in terms of compound and carcass. Both utilize the same compound (different from the standard tire) but have different structures.
For the WorldSSP class only standard options will be available, consisting of the SC1 and SC2 at the front, and the SCX and SC0 at the rear.
The Misano circuit was completely resurfaced in 2015 using a specific bitumen formulation to counteract the effects of salt and humidity caused by the track’s proximity to the sea. The abrasive asphalt, high temperatures and sweeping right-hand corners are expected to place a large amount of mechanical and thermal stress on the right-hand shoulder of the tires.
“So far this year we haven’t brought any development solutions for the rear yet, we’ll do it at Misano,” explained Giorgio Barbier, motorcycle racing director, Pirelli. “The goal is to further improve the performance of the SCX and that’s the reason why we have developed two solutions with different characteristics compared to the standard option. Both solutions use the same compound, which is however different from the standard, and offer two different options in terms of structure. It will therefore be interesting to understand how they behave on a typically challenging track, which can be even more demanding in the case of particularly high temperatures. In short, an excellent test bench.”
