With Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship due to start in January 2024, Hankook, the official technical partner and tire supplier, is looking to build on the Ion Race tire’s successful debut in the 2022/23 season.
Testing for Season 10 will take place on October 24-27 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, with the Ion Race tire unchanged from the previous season.
“We have not made any changes to our tire for the coming season,” confirmed Felix Kinzer, Hankook’s communications director. “On the one hand, the tire fully meets the specifications of Formula E. On the other hand, the compound and construction functioned wonderfully.”
The focus now shifts to perfecting the tire’s performance for the season ahead.
“Our first year as official tire partner of the Formula E World Championship was very successful for us,” added Manfred Sandbichler, motorsport director at Hankook. “The Hankook Ion Race demonstrated its great potential and very high level of consistency in diverse weather conditions and at tracks with a wide range of different characteristics.
“In Season 9, the tires were new to all the teams. We were also unable to call on any reference data, as the Hankook tires were being used for the first time at the Formula E circuits around the world. It is now a different story in our second season, as we are familiar with the majority of tracks. Together with the teams, we will use the data analyzed to ensure the Hankook Ion Race performs at its very best again.”
