Continental has developed a unique new compound for its RDT-Master earthmover tire designed for rigid dump trucks. The cut-resistant compound was specified for rough and abrasive applications in which the tires have to operate on sharp gravel, rocks and stones.
The demands placed on off-road tires, especially at mining and construction sites, are ever expanding. Tires need to be customized to each application. Rigid dump trucks are often driven on aggressive terrain where resistance to high abrasion and cut and chip are important.
Thanks to Continental’s newly developed polymer meshing system (see image) based on high synthetic rubber and other special components, the RDT-Master CR has a high wear resistance but still maintains a good amount of heat dissipation.
The tire also incorporates carcass protection against cuts and damages by foreign objects. An innovative open shoulder design ensures good self-cleaning abilities and enhanced traction.
The new compound complements the standard RDT-Master compound, which is best suited for mixed applications on different surfaces. The RDT-Master ST’s well-balanced intermediate compound is designed to enable longer load cycles than its cut-resistant counterpart while still having good abrasion resistance.
