A new manufacturing site covering approximately 600,000m2 has officially been opened by Toyo Tire in Indija, Serbia. The facility will be operated by Toyo Tire Serbia, part of the Toyo Tire Group.
Toyo Tire began operations at the facility in July 2022 on a line that had been partially constructed, and by the second half of 2023 the facility will reach its production capacity of 5 million passenger car, SUV and light truck tires per year. The company is targeting the production of tires for local market within Europe while also catering for the North American market.
The newly established Serbia Plant is a smart factory which aims to optimize and improve production control systems by visualizing the process and linking the highly productive equipment. Toyo Tire aims to achieve this by implementing technologies such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
A solar power generation system with a power capacity of 8.4MW has been installed at the site to deliver 10.15GWh of sustainable generated electricity annually.
To support tire development, the company will use its R&D center in the Federal Republic of Germany to further develop technologies for each part of a tire’s structure, shape and pattern. These insights will then be used to manufacture high-performance products at the Serbia site, including tires for electric vehicles.
A test course with a 720m-long straight has also been built next to the factory building, enabling tests of new tires on actual vehicles to ensure products comply with European regulations while reducing their time to market.
