A Tokai Carbon CB facility in Addis, Louisiana, has been certified to the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus standard, enabling the site to supply sustainable carbon black.
The new certification enables the company to provide sustainable carbon black from two of its plants using a mass balance process. The ISCC Plus standard “uses a mass balance approach to enable users of circular and bio-based feedstocks to certify their products corresponding to the amount of these feedstocks consumed”, the company said.
At present, Tokai Carbon CB uses a circular tire pyrolysis oil from ISCC Plus-certified suppliers to produce sustainable carbon black declarations. This enables its customers to purchase the material to manufacture sustainable consumer products.
In early 2022, the company’s Texas facility was the first carbon black plant in the world to achieve ISCC Plus certification.
“Tokai Carbon CB is committed to being a world leader in sustainability by developing practical solutions for our customers to achieve their sustainability goals,” said Mark Leigh, president of Tokai Carbon CB. “Sustainable carbon black certified to ISCC Plus provides customers a simple solution and supports the development of tire recycling through tire pyrolysis.
“Besides being the first carbon black company in the market with ISCC Plus certification, Tokai Carbon CB has also achieved a Gold rating on the EcoVadis sustainability scorecard, further demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and our customers.”
