Orion Engineered Carbons has broken ground for a logistics center at its manufacturing plant in Cologne, Germany.
The warehouse for the supplier of carbon black, which is used for various rubber products including tires, will cover 8,850 m2 and have the capacity for 12,400 pallets.
Built by construction company Goldbeck, the building will have eight truck docks, and about 100 trucks will pass through the gates every day.
Internal logistics will be consolidated into the one facility, which Orion will lease from logistics provider Grieshaber.
Gregor Schnell, managing director, Grieshaber, said, “With a space-optimized shuttle warehouse system and the connection to the warehouse via an automated material conveyor system, we will be able to guarantee a smooth and even more efficient flow of goods.”
The topping out ceremony is planned for the end of June with the handover scheduled for December.
