Nokian has held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new US plant in Dayton, Tennessee. The greenfield factory, which will produce passenger car and light truck tires, will have an annual capacity of four million units and the first products are expected to roll off the production line in 2020. The facility is expected to reach total output by 2022, and its design provides room for potential capacity expansion in future.
On-site there will also be a distribution facility with a storage capacity of 600,000 tires. Building on the warehouse is scheduled to begin in early 2018.
North American customers will be served more efficiently thanks to the new plant, while capacity from other factories will become available to serve other growing markets.
“Nokian Tyres’ investment in Tennessee is supporting our growth ambition and commitment to serve our customers in the North American market,” said Nokian Tyres president and CEO, Hille Korhonen, at the groundbreaking. She also highlighted the company’s ambition to double its sales in the next five years within North America.
