Production at Bridgestone Americas’ plant in Bloomington, Illinois, where it manufactures off-the-road tires, is to be expanded with a US$12m investment. The workforce will also be increased by 30 people.
The added capacity will cover multiple sizes and patterns in 29in, 33in and 35in OTR tires, which until now Bridgestone has manufactured only in Japan.
“As an industry leader, Bridgestone is committed to meeting the evolving needs of our customers in the OTR segment,” said Bridget Neal, president, commercial, OTR, Bridgestone Americas.
“The addition of the three tire sizes to the Bloomington production line combined with our Aiken County, South Carolina, off-road tire plant, allows us to support North American customers with regional supply of our key products.”
Added Monty Greutman, plant manager in Bloomington, “This investment is about increasing our flexibility to produce high-quality radial or bias tires – whatever our customers demand.
“It will allow us to deliver on our global commitment to develop innovative new products that will meet our customers’ needs, but it wouldn’t be possible without the outstanding team mates we have here today – some of whom have worked here for decades.”
