Nira Dynamics has launched the Tread Wear Indicator (TWI), which monitors tire wear in real time, providing drivers and fleet operators with critical insights into tire health.
Tire wear affects vehicle safety, fuel efficiency and environmental sustainability, and Nira says that its TWI is a game-changing solution that addresses these issues. “Our mission with TWI is to bring a new level of reliability and ease to tire monitoring,” said Josefin Storm, TWI product manager at Nira Dynamics.
Low tread depth can be unsafe as it increases braking distances and compromises handling, especially on wet or icy roads. By monitoring tread wear, TWI provides early warnings that enable drivers to replace tires before they reach a critical level. For fleet operators, TWI’s insights allow for better planning, avoiding unexpected tire replacements and ensuring fleet operations are smooth.
With TWI, tires can be replaced when necessary, reducing waste and particle emissions and supporting greener driving practices. The data-driven approach is beneficial to fleet management, where optimizing tire use can lead to significant environmental benefits.
Unlike other systems, TWI operates with the existing sensors in the vehicle, which Nira says makes it low cost and low maintenance. By collaborating closely with industry partners and OEMs, the company hopes to make TWI a standard for tire monitoring.
