An additional 17 Euro/hard metric sizes are scheduled to be added to Yokohama’s Geolandar X-AT extreme all-terrain tire range to pair with existing LT-metric sizes. By the end of 2023, 80 sizes to suit 15-22in rim diameters will be available for application to pickup trucks, jeeps and SUVs.
Yokohama has designed the Geolandar X-AT with dynamic, large shoulder blocks that vary in length to provide a biting edge and promote mud and stone ejection. When these are combined with the tire’s angular center blocks, added durability and grip are provided. Furthermore, zig-zag grooves on the tread interrupt airflow to reduce the amount of pattern and road noise.
Yokohama has used its HD2 compound for the all-terrain tire. It consists of a triple-polymer blend engineered to deliver a long tread life and resistance to cuts and chips. Additional durability is provided by the tire maker’s Geo-Shield technology, consisting of multiple sidewall plies combined with a high turn-up carcass and a full nylon cap.
“The Euro/hard-metric sizes allow drivers with a highway all-season tire to upgrade to a more aggressive all-terrain tire with similar load capacity and tire pressure as their OE tire specifications,” explained Drew Dayton, senior product planning manager – consumer tires at Yokohama.
