A pair of Kumho tire concepts have been honored with the iF Design Award. The Volume and the Origami were recognized for their future-oriented innovation. The Volume is a next-generation tire concept that dynamically adjusts its structure and functions according to speed and road conditions. The Origami is a folding tire designed specifically for outer space exploration and settlement construction. Boasting an innovative structure inspired by the art of paper folding, the tire maximizes mobility efficiency in space environments.
The concepts were developed through Kumho’s Technology Outsourcing program, a collaborative research project intended to develop tires for future mobility. The partner behind the futuristic tires was BKID, an industrial design studio.
“Kumho has been working on initiatives to create sustainable and responsible solutions for future mobility,” said Young-Jin Kim, head of the R&D division of Kumho Tyre. “We will continue striving to develop products that align with our customers’ lifestyles while delivering innovation and functionality.”
