Bridgestone is working with the team, which specializes in XJ220s, Group C cars and historic Jaguars, to develop new-generation tires for the XJ220. The tires originally designed for the vehicle by Bridgestone went out of production some years ago.
Through a chance meeting, Don Law opened discussions with Bridgestone Europe. The two companies have now brought together a team that includes the original chief development engineer and test driver, and also the famed chassis number 004 pre-production model.
“It’s very important to keep such iconic vehicles running today and supporting people like Don Law and his team of expert technicians. Technology has moved on significantly in the last 25 years, and we believe we will be able to produce a tire that will keep the smiles on the faces of the enthusiast drivers of the XJ220,” said Christophe de Valroger, VP consumer OE at Bridgestone Europe.
The project is moving fast; the aim is to have the tires ready for the XJ220’s 25th birthday in 2017.
