The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and ConMet, an OEM vehicle equipment supplier, have launched a strategic collaboration to create a combined digital solution they say will allow commercial truck fleets to better monitor the health of their tires.
The companies hope to harness their respective experience in connected mobility and leverage existing data resources to provide fleets with insights on tire and wheel performance. The goal, they state, is to allow fleets to remotely monitor vehicles in real time, providing them automated insights which facilitate better maintenance decisions in order to improve operating efficiency and safety.
Goodyear has developed a range of sensor and data collection systems for monitoring tire condition, and ConMet produces the PreSet Plus SmartHub system, which incorporates temperature and vibration sensors within a vehicle’s hubs. These are linked via wireless connection to a cloud-based platform, replete with analysis algorithms to assess component condition.
Beto Dantas, chief technology and innovation officer at ConMet, commented, “ConMet and Goodyear are both committed to using the power of connectivity and sensor technology (IoT) to help commercial vehicles perform more efficiently. This valuable, combined information will help extend tire longevity, maximize performance, keep vehicles on the road and reduce fleets’ unscheduled downtime.”
