Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has partnered with global tire manufacturer Pirelli to introduce FSC-certified natural rubber tires across its range of luxury vehicles. This initiative will see the adoption of more than 250,000 FSC-certified tires annually, starting with the new Range Rover Electric.
The companies say the collaboration underscores a move toward sustainable tire production, aiming to support forest preservation and promote sustainable development.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification process guarantees that FSC-certified material is segregated from non-certified material throughout the supply chain. This certification confirms that the rubber is sustainably farmed, preserving biological diversity and benefiting local workers and communities economically.
Andrea Debbane, sustainability director at JLR, highlighted the importance of this partnership: “This is an exciting point in our sustainable luxury journey, as we partner with Pirelli, a company that shares JLR’s sustainability ambition and is at the forefront of sustainable tire production. By choosing Pirelli’s FSC-certified tires, we’re offering our clients high-quality, high-performance tires while supporting responsible forest management and protecting the communities in our rubber supply chain.”
Matteo Battaini, Pirelli’s head of sustainability and new mobility, emphasized the benefits of the FSC certification: “The FSC certification confirms that forests are managed to preserve biological diversity while benefiting local workers and communities economically. We are pleased that JLR has chosen to join our Pirelli journey as the first car maker to use Pirelli tires with this certification across a wide range of vehicles.”
Beyond introducing FSC-certified tires, JLR and Pirelli are working together to increase the percentage of sustainable and recycled content in all tires supplied to JLR.
