Continental’s PĂșchov plant in Slovakia has become the first of the company’s truck tire facilities to earn the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus certification.
This recognition underscores the plant’s adherence to stringent sustainability standards, ensuring the traceability of raw materials throughout the production process. The ISCC Plus certification requires compliance with specific mass-balance procedures, which involve tracking the use of fossil, renewable and recycled raw materials throughout the value chain.
Anton Vatala, head of the Continental truck tire plant in PĂșchov, said, “Our plant in PĂșchov is the first Continental truck tire plant to receive the ISCC Plus certification. It is a sign of our commitment to both quality and sustainability.”
The PĂșchov truck tire plant, part of Continental Tires Slovakia, originally began tire production in 1950. It employs over 5,000 people and produces tires for passenger cars, light trucks and trucks. The facility also includes a technology center for global tire research and development, as well as a unit of ContiTech.
Jorge Almeida, head of sustainability at Continental Tires, added, “Certifying our production processes underpins our extensive efforts in the area of sustainability. With ISCC Plus, we are able to tackle the transition to a circular economy and a sustainable bio-economy. Our aim is to gradually roll out the mass-balance approach to all our tire plants worldwide. PĂșchov is our first truck tire plant to be certified for this purpose.”
