This year marks the 39th anniversary of The Tire Society Conference on Tire Science and Technology, which this year will take place virtually. The conference will see 27 original works on tire technology, presented by the authors, in addition to a Special Topic Paper on the 40+ year history of The Tire Society as well as a keynote address, plenary address, invited lecture and panel discussion.
Presenters will be answering questions live, and, due to its virtual nature, the conference will be held over five days, from September 28 through October 2, in the morning hours Eastern Time, facilitating global attendance.
This year’s theme is ‘Intelligent transportation’ and will get underway with an address by Chris Helsel, senior VP and CTO of Goodyear, entitled Intelligent Transportation – Smart Mobility Solutions from the Tire Industry. The importance of the topic is that tire manufacturers must embrace changing consumer preference and society’s digital transformation as they consider the current and future mobility ecosystem. With tires no longer having only a physical footprint, they now have a digital dimension that can share operational data with the vehicle, users and other systems, and new opportunities exist through the tire to drive intelligent and sustainable transportation.
The Conference will also feature a plenary lecture by Dr Giorigio Rizzoni, the Ford Motor Company Chair in ElectroMechanical Systems at Ohio State University. Dr Rizzoni chairs the university’s Center for Automotive Research (CAR), with his research activities related to modeling, control and diagnosis of advanced propulsion systems, vehicle fault diagnosis and prognosis, electrified powertrains and energy storage systems, vehicle safety and intelligence, and sustainable mobility.
This is followed by an invited lecture by Ross Tessien, principal at Electricwaze and a noted technical writer, as well as a mechanical engineer with 43 patents,. Tessien publishes the Seeking Alpha blog for investors, focusing on topics such as electric vehicles. Rounding out the week will be a panel discussion by industry notables.
