Hankook Tires has signed an MoU with vehicle manufacturers Hyundai and Kia to collaboratively develop a series of data-based services.
The collaboration seeks to build a system through which the separate companies can exchange the knowledge and data needed to develop future technologies and solutions for mobility and vehicle operation management. Furthermore, as part of the agreement, the trio will start new business ventures together.
Marking the beginning of the MOU, the first project for the OEMs will be developing a solution for predicting and measuring tire wear and tire condition, and subsequently, further investigations into how tire wear affects performance, safety and fuel efficiency.
Hankook says it will share its tire-related data, while Hyundai and Kia will provide vehicle data from their connected vehicles. In addition, the group will pool data to design a tire management service based on vehicle and driving characteristics to notify parties when a tire needs replacing.
