Nokian Tyres celebrates 120 years in business this year and has launched a brand redesign honoring its Scandinavian roots to mark the occasion.
“To celebrate our company’s 120th anniversary and long history, our [new] graphic design takes inspiration from the original typeface that was already used in the 19th century, explained Antti-Jussi Tähtinen, vice president, marketing and communications.
“The redesigned brand image takes inspiration from the simplistic aesthetics of Scandinavian design … The simplified round shape is based on the dimensions of an actual tire and used as a recurring graphical element.”
A trusted brand known for innovative products and a commitment to serving customers, Nokian Tyres was formed in 1898 and initially manufactured galoshes, rubber seals, different types of hoses, police batons and bicycle tires before beginning car tire manufacturing in the early 1900s. It developed the world’s first winter tire, the Kelirengas, in 1934, and the Hakkapeliitta winter tire two years later, which has now been the leading winter tire brand for over 80 years.
“We are proud of our roots and our strong heritage of technological leadership, high-quality products and the Hakkapeliitta Spirit. As experts in challenging conditions, we have been promoting and facilitating safe transport for decades. This is a good foundation for building an even stronger success story together with our personnel, customers and partners,” said Hille Korhonen, Nokian Tyres president and CEO.
“We can only remain at the top of the industry through constant development and improvement. This means, for example, expanding outside of the traditional winter tire market and investing in services that make it even easier to take care of your tires. We intend to continue our systematic and sustainable work toward developing innovative solutions and retain our ability to quickly and flexibly adapt to the changes around us.”
