The new BMW X5 is to be factory-fitted with General Tire’s Grabber AT3 all-terrain tire, which has been recommended in a size 275/45 R20 110V XL.
The Grabber AT3 is said to offer good performance on- and off-road, low noise and high mileage, plus maximum grip on stony, sandy and muddy ground.
“For the General Tire brand, this recognition by one of the leading European 4×4 vehicle manufacturers is a seal of quality. BMW invariably sets the bar high in terms of its requirements of the tires, in both the original equipment and replacement sectors,” said Matthias Bartz, business development manager for the EMEA region at General Tire.
The Grabber AT3 features General Tire’s TracGen technology, which is a special open-shoulder design; traction pockets; and sipes arranged at different angles to enhance grip.
The company’s DuraGen compound, meanwhile, is said to provide high rip-resistance and durability on rough terrain. This combination of performance boosts the self-cleaning properties of the tread, permits good interlocking with loose surfaces, and provides a large number of edges to deliver grip in every direction.
General Tire’s ComfortBalance tech features a specially designed block tread configuration with low stiffness, and a specially modified block arrangement across the center of the tread, which reduces vibration in the tire.
