Every year, Pirelli acknowledges the efforts of its top suppliers, emphasizing sustainability, continuous innovation, quality of raw materials, impeccable service and competitiveness at Pirelli Supplier Day.
The 2023 event was held at the company’s headquarters in Milan, with companies of various sizes from 18 countries participating. Over 70 companies were recognized as strategic suppliers, collectively representing about 40% of the Group’s annual global purchases. Pirelli’s chief procurement officer, Andrea Maganzani, presented awards to the five suppliers who stood out during the year.
Executive vice chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera commented, “Our company always sets itself ambitious goals that would not be possible without the support of those who work alongside us. Sharing our company values and targets with the entire supply chain allows us to constantly improve, particularly when it comes to sustainability and innovation which are key, strategic elements that underpin our global leadership in the high value segment and sustainability indices.”
During 2023 Supplier Day, Pirelli emphasized its Open Innovation approach, involving collaboration with suppliers, universities and innovation hubs dedicated to pioneering new product development. The focus has shifted toward the use of new bio-based and recycled materials, along with innovative nanopolymers.
The event highlighted the excellence and dedication of the entire supply chain, contributing significantly to Pirelli’s stated objectives. Sustainability was a key theme, evident in the company’s 2025 goal for carbon neutrality and reduced use of fossil fuel-based materials. This is being achieved through research and innovation in renewable and recycled sources. The collaboration with the supply chain played a crucial role in the introduction of the P Zero E tire in 2023, containing over 55% natural and recycled materials, as confirmed by Bureau Veritas.
In 2021, Pirelli pioneered the world’s first Forest Stewardship Council-certified (FSC) tire, ensuring total traceability of raw materials from forest origin throughout the supply chain. This certification guarantees responsible management of plantations, preserving biodiversity and benefiting local communities and workers, thereby enhancing economic sustainability, according to the company.
