Arctic Falls can now offer customers the facilities to test tires in harsh Nordic winter conditions, and only minutes later test them on wet and dry asphalt in cool summer temperatures.
This month Arctic Falls is opening its new and acclaimed indoor testing facility in northern Sweden. The 400 x 15m building enables indoor winter testing to be undertaken throughout the year.
“This makes it possible to extend the testing season, even for heavy vehicles as the indoor ceiling height is 4.5m,” says Anders Lindgren, tire testing manager.
The indoor facility will make the winter testing season longer and another major advantage is the capabilities it offers to combine winter tests with cold climate summer tests during the same test period.
“Many customers have already recognized that the capability to combine indoor winter testing and outdoor wet and dry asphalt tests can be highly beneficial to their tire testing,” says Lindgren.
During a test session with the same vehicle and the same tires, tests can be performed on snow and ice as well as on dry and wet asphalt. “We have a sprinkled runway within just 10 minutes of the indoor winter testing facility. This offers unprecedented flexibility.”
The new indoor test facility offers both snow and ice tracks, and even if the track layout was designed for tire testing, the facility can also be used for vehicle and component testing. The conditions in the facility can be controlled to perfection for those tests where it is vital that the climate conditions stay the same, test after test.
“Making it possible for our customers to keep improving their vehicle and tire testing is crucial to our business,” adds Lindgren. “We want to be the best possible partner for our customers when it comes to both winter and summer testing of vehicles, components and tires for the Nordic climate.”
A cooperation with Luleå Technical University has also been formed, which will focus on snow and ice research at the facility in the seasons to come.
Arctic Falls CEO Jonas Jalar says, “With this venture, we take a giant leap toward meeting the testing needs of the future. We strive to offer the best testing solution in the business – for those that aim to be the leaders in their own business.”
