Starrett Bytewise Measurement Systems: technical sales engineer for tire, NA

Starrett-Bytewise Measurement Systems is a growing company that is an industry leader in designing and building laser-based, non-contact measurement equipment. We are seeking a qualified individual for a technical sales engineer position that will be responsible for direct sales to tire makers in North America. The position will be based in our headquarters in Columbus, Georgia.

The ideal candidate will have broad understanding of tire manufacturing, fundamental knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering, strong inter-personal skills, and function well without direct supervision.

Essential functions

Sales management:
- Develop product awareness among key decision influencers at the tire plants, R&D centers, test centers, and corporate headquarters through a structured plan including site visits, equipment demonstrations, software demonstrations, product presentations, trade shows and conferences.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of sales prospects for each product line through phone and email campaigns and site visits.
- Quote, negotiate and close deals.

Product expertise:
- Be sufficiently expert in the assigned product lines to conduct technical meetings with comprehensive understanding of the mechanical, electrical, and software components and their interactions.
- Interact with customers, Product Managers, Product Teams, and Sales Management to ensure customer needs are understood and met.
- Conduct meetings with existing customers to assist them in realizing the full value of the products and identify and meet their needs.
- Work with the Technical Engineering group to devise, develop, and field new products and existing product improvements. Develop and lead in-plant trials for new products and product improvements.
- Write, publish and present technical papers as necessary to better communicate product values.

Administration:
- Submit weekly reports to the Sales VP and assigned product teams detailing work performed and upcoming travel and work plans.
- Maintain a status reporting system for tracking and classifying all sales leads.
- Maintain a forward forecast for incoming sales.
- Communicate with customers in a professional manner to ensure their needs are met.
- Provide written trip reports for all customer visits.
- Maintain meticulous expense reporting.
- Schedule and track all travel arrangements for your assigned accounts.
- Maintain valid Driver’s License and U.S. passport.
- Excellent spoken and written English is required, other language skill is beneficial.

Work environment:
- Work will most often be performed in an office environment; however, this job will also require regular visits to our customers’ manufacturing facilities. The characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position. - While performing duties of this job, you will frequently be required to maintain a stationary position, move through a heavy industrial facility, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
- You must manual dexterity to operate computers, equipment, and other tools required on the job.

Candidates should have the desire to learn and apply new technologies and enthusiasm for solving technical challenges. Qualified candidates will have strong problem solving, multi-tasking, inter-personal, organization, time management, and written and verbal communication skills. Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work in the United States and will be required to provide proof of employment eligibility at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship for this position is not available at this time.

Education:
B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Industrial, or Systems Engineering or similar technical degree.

Salary:
Commensurate with education, experience, and skill set.

Benefits:

Travel:
Up to 40% domestic and international including frequent overnight travel with rare extended trips up to a few weeks.
